Anambra police arrest ex-convict over alleged motorcycle-assisted robberies targeting POS operators

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old ex-convict, Chidera Anthony Eleh, popularly known as “Timaya,” over alleged robberies targeting Point of Sale (POS) operators in Awka.

The arrest followed the circulation of a video showing suspected armed robbers attacking POS operators at Aroma Junction in Awka and carting away their cash.

According to the police, the footage prompted an investigation that led to Eleh’s arrest during an intelligence-led operation on the afternoon of Friday, October 9, 2026.

Items recovered from the suspect include a motorcycle, an axe, a cutlass and other materials believed to be connected to the alleged crimes.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest in a statement, adding that the suspect was being held in police custody.

Ikenga also disclosed that investigations were ongoing to identify and apprehend the suspect’s alleged accomplices.
